Suspect You Have Tinnitus?

34

What is this ringing in my ears?

If you ask five people what tinnitus sounds like, you may get five different answers.
Tinnitus is a sound (most commonly a ringing sound) that is ‘heard’ but has no physical source in the real world outside of your own body.

Having tinnitus can affect your daily life.

The first sign of tinnitus is the notice of a ringing, buzzing, clicking, whistling, or hissing (or your particular form) sound that you can hear, but no one else can. It can start to make things like concentrating, sleeping, and interactions with people more difficult.

When do I seek a medical professional?

Tinnitus can be a sign of an underlying condition, and therefore having your audiologist check you out for anything else that might be causing the issue can be a good idea. This would start initially with a simple hearing assessment to check for any hearing loss.

Techniques to Manage your Tinnitus

The best way to manage tinnitus is to ignore it, and the best way to do that is by doing things that you love! It can be a hobby, movies, music, or anything else that will keep your mind distracted from listening to the ringing in your head. Check out the link below for more information on strategies and how these techniques work in the brain.

Does tinnitus have a cure?

It’s complicated, but usually if your tinnitus is caused by hearing damage, then unfortunately there is no cure. If your tinnitus is a symptom of a treatable medical condition, then there may be hope. For a more detailed answer on common causes, check out our tinnitus page by the link below.

Knowledge is power, and having tinnitus is a battle of wills

It’s not until our hearing is threatened that we may become interested in how hearing actually works in the body. Getting informed on the process of hearing and hearing loss can be of great benefit going forward to manage your exposure to any more risk of the condition becoming worse.

Made up of outer, middle and inner ear. Containing the smallest bone in the body, the ear is both fascinating and important.

It is also one of the most sensitive, yet over looked part of the body for maintaining good health.

About Stay Tuned Hearing

Robin Tu, the principal Audiologist at Stay Tuned Hearing

Robin Tu
BSc, MClinAud

Growing up with my mother who suffered from severe hearing issues made me realise the detrimental effects of hearing loss on an individual’s communication, lifestyle and overall quality of life. This provided me the passion to help people with impaired hearing.

Having specialized in adult rehabilitation in my past seven years’ experience in Frankston. I’ve always aspired to open my own hearing company to provide a better hearing service for all my clients; without being held back by corporate greed. I do that by providing unbiased advice, a large variety of manufactures, competitive pricing and most importantly, exceptional care.

My clinic is situated in the heart of Mount Eliza with easy access to buses to and from the surrounding suburbs of the Mornington Peninsula. Located on the health strip behind the Australian Post with other health services including: Myopathy, Naturopathy. We also share our clinic with Podiatry, allowing us to care for you from head to toe.

So please come and experience the Stay Tuned Hearing service and find out how well you can hear.
